Forum Moderators - Get Some Now March 6, 2007

A while back, I talked about the increased spam on one of my forums.  I decided I needed some help with the spam problem, I just wasn’t around enough to deal with it.  I’d wake up from 6 hours of sleep and there would be 6 spam messages.

I asked two of my top members to help me out by becoming moderators.  Both were excited to help so I set it all up.   It has been one of the best decisions I have made.  Between the three of us spam rarely last more than minute before one of us gets it.  Not only that but they are posting more than ever keeping the forums busy. 

They are contributing to the growth of the forum which remains small with about 200 threads and about 2000 posts but continues to show potential.

I suppose the purpose of this post is to get moderators early on for your forum, they will work hard at growing your forum for you, at least that has been my experience.

If only it were so easy.  But, here is an update on one of my forums: 

I am however starting to see some growth in one of my forums.  A couple of busy forums linked to me as they found some of the images in a thread on my forum interesting. 

Here is what I did to generate this interest.  Found something relatively amazing and posted one picture of it inline (inside the thread) then uploaded a bunch more as attachments.   I then required registration to see the attached pictures (its all in the admin panel).  The teaser pic gets visitors interested , and hopefully they join to see the rest. 

People are joining and even posting.  A very encouraging few days indeed.  It is taking more of my time as I need to nurture it and make sure I reply and keep members entertained but it’s a good problem to have.  I think I have a good niche, the challenge is getting a few experts to hang out.  It looks like I am getting there.

Today has easily been the busiest day for the forums so far.  Let’s celebrate ;)
