- Tutorial site for new and intermediate web developers. Covers information architecture and basic html as well as a few other topics. Currently using Google AdSense on the site (AdSense for Content - Ad unit and Link unit, AdSense for Search). I’ve had the site for over 5 years but awhile back I moved things around and really screwed up my traffic. That was before I was attempting to monetize the site so the impact of doing so was not really until I decided to make some money off of it. Traffic is coming back now, since I put things back closer to what they were. I’m averaging about $4 a month right now - so obviously room for a ton of improvement. I may take my co-authors (Evil Green’s) advice and limit the AdSense until my traffic comes up, but the monetizing of this site is not my primary focus right now.
- Site providing information on babies and baby products to new parents. Not selling anything here, just informational based. Set this up a couple of months back and I’m still in the Google sandbox. Trying to keep adding content but need to find more time to do so. AdSense for this is the same as #1 above. Interesting though that I find the quality of companies whose ads appear on this site are much more widely known that the ads appearing on the tutorial site. Looking forward to getting some traffic here and seeing what I can do. To date I’ve made a big fat $0.00 in AdSense.
- Site for a client that sells products online - specifically over the counter (OTC) pharmaceuticals - meaning not requiring a prescription. The site has been moderately successful and they have been running their own AdWords campaigns but without any direction. I’ve intended for a long time to get more involved with this but just have not had the time. So I’m making myself take the time to get involved now and see what I can do to improve the sites numbers. I do know that they get lots of traffic from their AdWords campaigns. So I’ll let them continue with that for now. My plan is to improve the landing pages from those ads in an attempt to convert more of those clicks into actual sales. A landing page is the page the user goes to immediately upon clicking on an ad. There is lots on information on other sites that discusses how to improve landing pages and the resulting conversions. I’ll attempt to apply some of this knowledge and keep you informed about what I’m doing as I go along. Goal I’m setting initially is to increase the average daily number of orders by 50%. Currently the average is 10 orders - so i’ll be shooting for 15.
That about sums up what I have to play around with at the moment. Looking forward to really getting rolling down the road!!
